Fireplace Mantel

Even though I haven't had a fire yet, I finally went ahead and decorated my mantel!  Green glass ware and Indian corn from the Goodwill, berry/ pumpkin sprig and mini pumpkins from Walmart and leaf garland from Joanns.  I like the garland because it's so full.  I'm thinking about putting a bit of frosty glitter on it but I'm not sure.  (Of course I've changed the mantel since snapping this pic!)

It looks so pretty with the twinkle lights and candles lit!  It's so hard to get a good pic with the mirror there but I'll keep trying!

Are you wondering why I haven't used the fireplace yet?  I'm making myself wait until the room is all re-done!  This is going to be my spa/nature room so I'm totally redoing it!  I've been gathering ideas on pinterest and started a board I'm calling Forrest Chic.  I'm also not sure which wall the fireplace will be on so everything has to be juuuust right (and cold) until I can use it!  I'm funny that way.  I like to wait on good things- savor the newness.

My eldest son took me on an antique buying trip for a belated birthday gift!  If you're not with me on facebook, I'll be showing my finds here soon.

Hope you're all having a happy fall!  I'm feeling happier than I have in a long while and THAT'S a good thing!

Cutest Cradle Ever!

Hello bloggy friends!  You know how I love old decals- right?

Well, I found this doll cradle on my birthday treasure hunting trip!

I gasped when I saw it!

Decals on both sides!

It's currently holding fabric and my yo yo kit- right next to my computer table.

For some reason, I am not a doll person.  If that surprises you, don't worry- I'm hard to figure out.

The bunnies with the balloons is my favorite decal.  Here's close ups of the rest.

Bobby spoiled me this trip- that's for sure!
Thanks for coming by and leaving me a comment!

Next post, I hope to share some design plans for my new "spa" room!

My Birthday Table!

Happy Birthday to me!
This 50s dinette was sitting outside under a carport at the antique mall we went to.  It was soooo dirty!

A guy saw me looking at it and said I could have it and the 4 chairs for $75.00!  The leaf was hidden underneath it.  I didn't even know it was there until after we bought it!

When the table is wet, it more closely matches the leaf color.  I'm researching how to shine it up for good!

And here's one of the chairs!  This one was in the best shape!  All the others are torn.

Here's a close up.  This pattern is called cracked ice and it reminds me so much of my mom!

I had fun scrubbing it up and shining it!

For now it's sitting on the front porch but it will be joining the table in my craft room tomorrow!

I found more fun things on my birthday shopping trip but I'll save them for another post!

Happy Birthday To Me!

I'm 53 today!  I'm the little girl in pink, looking at what I think was a catalog!
I never liked crowds and still don't!
Bobby is taking me out to lunch at Red Lobster and then to shop at a big antique mall that's in an old airplane hangar!
I've wanted to go there for a long time so I'm excited!
Wish my feet good luck!  *I* like to shop but my feet don't!

Super Fun Find!

Look at this doll sized case I found at the thrifts!
It was really dirty but cleaned up fine!

I haven't been able to find another like it online.
It looks a lot like the Ponytail brand of similar items but they always had the word Ponytail written near the girl.

Hope you all have a great week!  Last week was the best week I've had in a long, long time!

Vintage Kitchen Wares Put To Work!

In case you're tired of seeing my yo yos, you may now gaze upon fall fabric scraps!

I gathered them together for a fall photo shoot to highlight the usefulness of thrifting old kitchen wares AND thifted wicker shelving.
You're welcome.

My New Fireplace

Celebrate with me!  I have a portable fireplace!
It sat at the thrift store for months waiting for me to have enough money to buy it.
I'm so glad no one else bought it first!  Isn't it perfect?

It has a fake log and burns a fire gel that crackles like wood!
I can't wait till it's cold enough to use it!
The last 2 houses I lived in had wood stoves and I've really missed having a fire.  I've also lived in 2 different houses that had a fire place and I loved decorating the mantel.
This is more for looks and mood rather than heat but I am glad it has a real flame!  I'll show it to you again when I have it decorated for fall.
Thanks for coming by!  remember that I'm on facebook too now!

Brought To You By The Letter A

Is it possible for one be yo yoed to death?  Let's hope not.

Here's another letter I made for my great niece.
Believe it or not, these are sort of challenging for me to make.
Not the yo yos but the trying to decide where to put them to make them "fit".  I spend days doing it and I was still not satisfied with this one.  It seems middle heavy.  For this reason, I don't think I'll be making any of these to sell.
Yes, it's true, I like to get paid to PLAY so I will stick to rag ball garlands and yo yo scarecrows.

I hope you've all had a good summer.  It's been a tough one for me but I'm always determined to find those silver linings!

Fall Yo Yos

Can I interest you in fall?

The ones with buttons are ready for a wreath but some will be for scarecrows.

Red, green, yellow, orange, brown and gold with some blue for sky thrown in!

It's already feeling like fall here today and I'm glad!

Porch Frame and Thrift Finds

Hello blog friendies!  Idaho finally cooled down and we had some rain.
I feel like a new woman!  I took a big piece from my garage sale cutter quilt and popped it in a hoop. I know it's not even but there were big knotty lumps of batting to contend with. This will hang on the porch until fall.
Look at this cute button frame I bought at the Salvation Army!  I've thought of doing this very thing but now I won't have, too.
It came with glass but I removed it for the pic.

Here's a few more vintagey SA finds.  I buy $10.00 worth at a time so I can get a punch on my card.  Once the card is full, you get a $20.00 shopping spree!
I bought this huge Samsonite case at a garage sale for $5.00.
Even though it's big, it's not heavy- yet.
This will store all my blue fabrics.

I've been busy filling rag ball garland orders and making yo yos for more scarecrows.  I also finished up 2 more yo yo letters for a great niece and nephew.  It's nice to stay busy and have hobbies I enjoy.

Hope you're all happy and enjoying the rest of summer!
