Garage Sailing!

I'm so excited, girls! Bobby, Micah and I went for the first garage sale outing of the season! The day was perfectly warm- not too hot like it usually is when I try to go. (I *really* dislike climbing into a hot car and driving off to yet another sale.) We only found one sale in our own little town so we headed for the next town over but didn't have any success there at all. We decided to head home and on our way back, we saw a "Multi- Family Sale" sign. Yahooey!! So... here are my carefully chosen treasures...

I finally found an old ornate frame. It's really big and it was only $3.00! Here it is with all its cobwebs and rusty wire. I have big plans for this frame so stay tuned! One of my hopes and dreams is to replace the wicker furniture I had to part with many moves ago so I was excited to see this table below. Finding used wicker in good condition is not easy but I think this little side table was a steal at $7.00! I also found this nice, chunky basket that's sitting on top. I use baskets for storage all over my home. I might paint this one up cute. Here's a close up of the details on the table. It has an antique/Victorian look to it-doesn't it? I smile every time I see it. I'm not sure where I will put it yet but I might use it as a shelf on my craft tables...

And of course, ya gotta have your tiny treasures, too! You'll probably think I'm silly taking so many pictures of this next item but it so Eeeked me! ☺ Here's Mama kitty with baby kitty in the cradle! ♥

Here's your rattle, sweetie! ♥

We also found a nice electric space heater for a good deal. Not the kind of thing that makes your heart go pitter- pat but very practical, eh? Bobby and Micah found a few "guy things" here and there too. After the slim pickins I've been seeing at the GW lately, it was nice to finally be rewarded for my hunting!

Thanks for coming by today, girls! I'll be cutting back on my posts from now on since I'm spending so much time outside these days. I think like most of you, Winter time will be my main blogging/crafting time. I've also been Spring organizing. We've been losing stuff lately which is a good indication that it's time to de- junk and re- organize! I love it! I love a clean, organized home but I have a challenge here with lack of closet space. We only have 1 medium size closet and 2 tiny ones that you can barely even hang clothes in! Once my house is in better shape- the pool will be up and then I'll be getting tan and skinny! Swimming is such good exercise! I can hardly wait!

Hope you're all enjoying your Spring! ♥

Don't Look Sara! My Latest Wreath

This is my Daughter in law Sara's birthday present all wrapped up pretty with a tag and a card! No peeking Sara!
The wrapping is scrap fabric with a tulle bow. I decided I should use one of my Lindsey tags that Queenie gave me instead of just hoarding them! I think it goes well with this package. I also included a vintage lady card that Tina gave me. Down bellow is the wreath that's in the package! No peeking Sara!

Ta-da! I love how it turned out!

I used solid Pink cotton, Pink eyelet, White lace, tulle and a multi colored Sage, Cream, Burgundy and Pink patterned fabric.

I also added some vintage millinery flowers and some craft "pearls" that turned out looking like sequins in these pics no matter what I did! G-rrrr!

Recognize the multi colored fabric? I wrapped up the wreath with the leftovers which originally came from a Goodwill skirt. The solid Pink is from a GW dress and the Pink eyelet was from a GW blouse.

I am hoping to make a bright multi -colored one for my front porch. I haven't made one for myself yet!
On another note: A couple weeks ago, someone gave me a couple- 3 (?) really cute award badges. I copied them to put in my side bar later but I plumb forgot who gave them to me! I might just place them in the side bar and say "thanks -whoever you are!" but if *you* gave them to me and you don't see them in my side bar, would you please help a young girl out and tell me who you are? Ha-ha!
Oh my, we've been having such hot weather that I've been wishing we already had the pool up and the air conditioning units in! I've been spending a lot of time out side in the mornings- walking and doing yard work and then sitting in the hot sun for short intervals throughout the day. I can feel the sun's energizing power!
I'll be back tomorrow to show you my garage sale treasures but then I'll be cutting back on my posting a bit since I'm spending so much time outside!
Happy Spring, everybody!

Favorite Things Friday

Howdy, girls! Welcome to Favorite Things Friday where I show some of my favs from the present and the past! This week- it's the present! Like this little vintage looking heart/rose potpourri holder.

Isn't it sweet? It was in this house when I moved in.

It usually hangs on my powder room mirror but I wasn't going to try a mirror shot. Ain't I just getting so good at taking pics? Hee-hee!

And then there's this old card . I love wedding ring quilts, robin's eggs, and lilacs so I took this card and stuck it in a criss cross frame. I love those, too!

And then there's this teddy bear/heart garland and matching heart wreath. The wreath is much more faded than the teddies because it once hung on my front porch in Michigan. These are the little things that bring smiles to my day.I hope you enjoy your favorite things today, too!

One of These Things Just Doesn't Belong

Remember that song from Sesame Street? ☺
These cutie pie pillows came from... that's right- the Goodwill! Not here but in Mitchell, South Dakota. That was a great big GW but I didn't get to go very often. The pillows appeared to be brand new when I bought them but after 4 years I decided I should wash one and see how it turned out. Oh my! They are pretty dirty! Can you tell which one was washed? Guess I need to wash the other ones now... But I don't mind. I love to play house!
After our little vacation, Bobby is back to his regular work schedule so this is my weekend. Once school is out, he'll be off of midnights and working a normal week with Sat. and Sun. off. It takes me most of the Summer to get used to that and then it's time to switch back to midnights with Wed. and Thu. off all over again. ☺
Hope you all have a wonderful day! ♥

Bunny Sighting Saturday

Happy Saturday, girls! Next week I'll have brand new Easter bunnies to show from my Easter swap with Noelle but this week I have a bunny tag from my Valentines swap with Lindsey !
Isn't she soooo adorable? She's posing on my kitchen wall. ☺ Lindsey made this tag with an image made from a vintage card. I'm going to find a way to display all three of them in my kitchen but I'm waiting till wood stove season is *really* over.
Well, we had a wonderful welcome home time with Bobby yesterday! We spent the day off at the lake, went out to eat and then hopped by the Goodwill. A perfect day! I saw signs for 3 different flea markets in the town by the lake! I'm hoping Bobby will want to go there again because it's too busy of a place for me to drive in...

Have a wonderful day, everyone! ♥

My Relationship With Cross Stitch

Even though it's blurry, I was so happy to find this pic on the Internet! (Do you remember this, Rika?) This is a small copy of a Creative Circle cross stitch sampler that I did in the late 80s /early 90s. Do you more mature chicks remember that company? My friend Sally was a rep and she taught me how to cross stitch. I spent so many happy hours (and some occasional frustration) while working on this piece and drinking coffee with my friend Kate. I'd also work on it while watching decorating/crafting shows. I was so proud of myself for learning how to cross stitch because I loved the look of it and I still do. This quilt sampler was offered with a companion piece that I also worked on but I *couldn't* find a pic of it anywhere. It was an apple pie on a checked table cloth in a country kitchen. It took me years to finish them both. But I don't have either of them any more. This tiny sampler below- the first I ever finished is all I have to show for my years of happy toil. The frame is melted and the sampler needs washing but it's mine and I did it. ☺

So, why don't I have the other 2 larger pieces? Well, I washed them to prepare them for framing and all the colors bled horribly onto the cream colored back ground! I asked around but nobody knew how to fix them. They sat in my craft drawer for years- mocking me. I thought, "I'll somehow have them repaired some day." But I never did and every time I looked at them, my heart would sink and I would feel angry. So when I made my big move from Washington to Michigan, I gave them to the Goodwill. I bet there was a way to fix them and I could find the answer from the Internet now but what's done is done and now when I hear the word "cross stitch" I feel a bitter sweetness. Oh well, I think crafting should be fun! No frustration- just creative bliss! I think rag wreaths are a lot more fun and easier too!

I hope you girls can find a craft that makes you happy and that none of your projects are bitter sweet!

Favorite Things Friday

Welcome to Favorite Things Friday! From now on, I'll be showing you some of my favorite things on things on Fridays...

Older things- Like this letter holder that my pen friend Katie made me. (See that cute card my Bobby gave me? I used to change the card out that would show in front but that heart card is my favorite.) And new Pansies! Forever Pansies... I'm sure I will always love them! I can't wait till they're spilling out of there!

And this newer little shelf thingy... I originally thought it too much of a Pepto Bismol Pink and I was going to change it to a lighter shade but it sort of grew on me. I love to decorate it different ways- you know- just play house!

But most of all... I love all my bloggy friends! You've brought so much sunshine into my life with your love and fun!
If you visit here but never leave a comment, I sure would love to hear from you!

Does Anybody Know these?

These Goodwill finds sit on the back of my stove most of the year. They look vintage to me but there isn't any markings on them. Do you know them?

Well, Bobby's off to Texas and my cold is a lot better but my back is much worse! Micah will be my right hand man- that's for sure! I need everyone to feel real sorry for me because I am plumb, powerful worn out! ☺ I need lots of hugs! ♥

I'm getting really excited about opening my Easter package for Noelle! I'm so glad I waited.

You should see Micah's basket. It's all camo- even the eggs and all the candy is green! I can't take a picture of it though because Bobby took the camera with him! A girly blogger without her camera? Oh, dear!

What's My Style?

Here's some more pages from my decorating file. But they confuse me somewhat. I mean, I love light, airy and romantic things like this ... (I can just see my cats having a ball with those curtains!)
But I also like bold and dark color contrasts and countrified things...

And then I'm back to this again which is a bit more in between...

What style am I?

When Life Gives You Snow- Play In It!

Morning, girls! Happy Winter! Okay-I'll admit this was a couple of snows ago- not LAST NIGHT'S silly snow but if I didn't have a hurt back and a bad cold, I'd go out and play in the stuff- laugh at it and tell it that it can't ruin my Spring!!! So there!
(Although it might ruin all my new blossoms.)
Instead, I'll be busy helping my Bobby get ready for his Texas trip- arm chair coordinator, ya know?
Get the suitcases up from the basement, find your Summer clothes, pick the ones you want, here's the camera, don't forget to pack you inhaler, etc.

For any of you who are worried about me with Bobby going away, here's the deal:

Once a year Bobby and Micah go on a 3 day camping trip and I'm here all alone. It is the highlight of my year! ☺ It's the closest I've ever come to an actual RESTFUL vacation. So, it doesn't bother me to be alone. It's the being alone with children that I'm not good at. Micah automatically wants me to spend WAY more time with him than I normally would and he becomes sulky and miserable and misses his dad! It doesn't take me long to feel suffocated. It's not that I don't like spending time with Micah. I mean when you home school, YOU SPEND TIME TOGETHER! I'm a loner that's all. It's really quite amazing that I even home school... Anyway, we won't be doing school while Bobby is gone because Micah just can't think with his dad gone but I'm hoping he will handle it better this year and hey, maybe next year he can go WITH dad! Ha-ha!

I'm not making much headway on my new wreath because of my back but I have a lot of mental craft projects going on! They wake me up at night! Ha-ha! If only I could get paid for coming up with ideas...

Have a funny day, bloggy girls!

Using My Linens

I've been washing and ironing up a lot of my vintage linens in the last few weeks. It's fun to move them all around and try them here and there. I wanted to show you this one. It would work on a tiny table top but I chose to put it on the dinning room table. It's only like this on the week end or after school though. We hardly ever eat here. It's a work table! Right now it's covered with school books, an easel and my next wreath project and the poor centerpiece is pushed aaaaaaaalllll the way to this end of the table.

But isn't this cloth pretty? Click to enlarge to see the details! Please ignore the incorrect and unwanted date in the corner. ☺

Well girls, the grass is totally Green now!!!! So welcome after the brown. The Forsythia is in full bloom and the Pear trees and Dogwoods are blooming, too. My Bridal Wreath bushes are about to burst open and then it will be my Pink Flowering Almond! I love the bushes and trees in my yard but I'm not attached. I've said good bye to too many yards to be capable of that!

Thanks for coming by and have a happy Monday as you greet the opportunities that this week provides you with!

Bunny Sighting Saturday

This middle bunny is trying to hide from us! Don't be shy, Sugar! There we go... ☺

We only have one more Bunny Sighting Saturday before Easter! I wonder who will be the last lucky bunny?

I started on my new wreath yesterday but my head is spinning with ideas for other projects, too! Must be the extra daylight reviving me!

Remember my birthday package for Elizabeth? Well, I wrapped it all up in Pink flowered paper and mailed it that way. Her mom says that Elizabeth carries it all around the house and even slept with it! She's so excited but she's saving it until her Birthday tomorrow! She's like me in that way. I love to savor a surprise! I love the suspense!

Have a fun and happy week end, girlies!

Easter Swap With Noelle

I had so much fun putting together a GIRL basket for my Spring chick, Noelle! I used mostly Pink and Brown and Purple for my color theme. Isn't this a pretty bow?

I choose a dark brown basket and painted Pink Polka dots all over it.

I also painted Noelle's initial and this mini bird house. I had fun wrapping up presents with Pink and Brown paper and trims.

Here's the contents of the basket, full and overflowing with FUN!

I'm afraid I probably added too much candy, given the fact that all of us girls are wanting to loose weight right now! ☺

Noelle is supposed to be putting up a post of her goodies too so maybe she'll have better pics.

The guys are going fishing today so I have the house to myself!
Hmmm... Seems like I've said THAT before! ☺

I hope to craft, decorate and blog- that's for sure!

I love all my blogettes! ♥ Hope you have some Spring come your way today.
