It's Party Time!

Welcome to the It's All About Me party hosted by Natasha Burns! Thank you, Natasha for hosting this wonderful party! Remember girls, when we do something for ourselves, we're really doing something for others too because when we're happy, we can easily make others happy, as well!

Although I am a loner, I've had an injured husband home and off of work since early Summer and I home school, too! I knew that in the months to come, I would be craving alone time- BIG TIME! So, I decided to create a haven- a Sweet Retreat just for me where I could go and craft, read, watch DVDs and eat chocolates! ☺ So without further ado:

Here's just a quick glimpse of one corner of my space! (All pictures are click to enlarge.) But there was quite a long journey of make overs to wade through before we got here! Come with me and see.

Before moving all my crafting supplies and tables into this room, I had some real problems to deal with! I needed to remove the cave like feeling of this dark little space and pretty it up! But what do you do if you have 4 walls full of this???? ACK!
The money to paint over them isn't there and the strength to paint over them isn't there either! So what do you do??? You cover them up with EVERYTHING you can get your hands on-that's what!!
How about wrapping paper from the Dollar store? Will that work? And vintage chenille? Will that work? Yes indeedy! And guess what? The whole wall is not covered with the wrapping paper! It's just that old 70's paneling underneath the bed spread! Hee-hee! Does anyone remember my 39 cent paper lantern? I thought it needed red dots. ☺

How about using a pretty sheet to cover another wall? You can even put a nail under the sheet to hang a freshly painted heart wreath!

I just knotted the corners and hooked them over a nail! Easy and cute!

A lace table cloth Could work- Right?

Or a lace curtain with cutie pie things hung on top of it!?

My! These lace panels come in han-dee! I tried hanging the lace tight but it looked too forced. This "throw it up there" method worked better for me-even if you do see the paneling at the top...

Okay- so that takes care of the walls but what do you do if you also have an old dinosaur like this 70s dresser to deal with? (Note old ugly wall in the reflection!) Yes, I'd love to paint this too but I can't- so what do I do?
Why, I glue Pink pom poms on it of course! Why not? ☺

And add other pretties too! (Note new pretty walls in reflection!) You can put vintage hankies over ugly drawers and attach rose plates to the dresser, add a bunny and shabby votive holders...

Ooo! Here's my Chintz from M!

You can pile up layers of tulle and add star fishies from M, too! That at least helps- does it not? My "new dresser" isn't the dresser of my dreams but it does serve me well with it's drawers full of craft supplies and it is now much more bearable!

Another solution for this room was to bring in this light piece of wicker from another area of the house! I was amazed how it instantly lit up the room! Do you see where my "Wall paper" stops? My covered tables hide the stopping line on the rest of the wall. If you click to enlarge this picture, you may also be able to see that I didn't vacuum! Ha-ha! ☺
This little night stand is what I had for a bedside table before. Even it was a thorn in my side. I tried to pretty it up but it was still just 70's fake wood furniture! The best solution I could come up with was to move it to the corner and...
cover it up! Vintage linens to the rescue!

I needed more lighting in the room but honestly, I do not own one, single nice lamp! Well, this wash basin full of rose petals and vintage gloves help a bit?

All these changes have helped to transform a dark dreary cave into such a fun, cute and pretty place to escape to and create in! (Even if I do still have brown paneling and furniture.)
I had so much fun making cute little spaces filled with crafting supplies!

I'm really not a cherub/angel girl; especially cherubs with a broken wing and magic marker scribbles that was free at a garage sale... So, I gave her the Pink stamp of approval. It was a quick fix! Hee-hee! Poor thing!

Here's a close up of my cute block from my new friend, E!

Now we'll move on to a few more make overs:
Back when I bought this shelving from the the thrift store, I knew I would want it for craft supplies! But until I could work it into my space, I put it in my bathroom.
But just look what my kitty did to it! I think she was paying me back for grounding her to the bathroom for the night!

Well, all is not lost! Vintage linens with polka dots cover a multitude of kitty sins!

I so admire the abundant shelving that so many girls have but I only have this one above! But... my hubby has plenty of these crates that I could sneak out of his shop! Shhhhh! But what to do? It's so ugly and shoppish!
Camouflage, camouflage, camouflage! Not bad huh? I sure do love my linens and gingham papers! There's all sorts of stuff stored inside the crate now and on the top as well!

This gold, garage sale shelf wasn't safe from a make over either!
It got a fresh coat of white and now hosts friends that came from Queenie and Lisa!

You long time readers will recognize this frame that I swiped from the living room. The plates that I originally had hanging inside kept falling down! ~ Cry ~ But the best thing about this vintage picture frame now is that everything adorning it came from Internet/blogging friends! Hmmm... Let's see, Linda, Rebecca, M, Noelle, Lindsey and Juli! Please forgive my lack of linking!

Isn't he a cutie pie? I LOVE children's vintage chenille!

Here's a close up of one another one of my easy peasy make over projects. I took this red plastic frame and placed all my Christmas cards from the 50's inside! I love the way it turned out!

I live in a dark little house because of my deep porches but even my kitty loves the way the sunshine pours through here in the afternoon and evening! There is a whole lot of "stuff" under the skirt of this table! It's sort of a crafting closet.

Here you can see that I have 2 tables set up with the office chair in between. This way I can have several different projects going on at the same time on each table or I can spin around and watch a DVD and eat chocolate! Hmmm...What's playing?
It's Macleod's Daughters! My latest Netflix indulgence!

Hmmm... What's over here on this table? Looks like some new projects! Yes, it's new projects that I made for today's party give away!

It's a 1 for you and 2 for me give away!

I made 3 new projects for myself in my new sweet Retreat but since I tend to create better for others, I decided that I would give one of these away and keep 2 for myself! So, if you want to enter, you *must choose just one* from these three items and you must tell me *which one* in order to be entered. *I will not choose for you*! ☺
Prize # 1 Small Lavender Rag Wreath

Prize #2 Picket Fence/Nursery Friends Pic. See the Forget Me Nots, Rebecca?

Prize # 3 Pink and Chocolate YUM Cupcake Pic!

Included with your win will be these 2 sweet store bought treats! Remember, you must tell me which one you would like in order to be entered. I plan to draw the winning name on Friday morning!

Thanks for coming by today, girls! You are all so precious to me! Old friends- and new!
If you get a chance, please go by Natasha's to check out what the other girls did for the party!

ps
did you know that home depot sells "oops" paint? it's paint that has been colored but was never picked up by the customer. it's usually SUPER cheap (maybe $5 a gallon). they keep it at the paint counter and it changes daily. a "decorating cents" tip.
