Do It Yourself Plate Hangers From Martha Stewart

Hello bloggy sisters! I've been trying to figure out how to make my own simple plate hangers for a long time now. It finally occurred to me to Google it! *Ding* Good ole Martha Stewart showed me how! Here's the link to her site where the pic bellow and the directions came from. (I wasn't sure what all I could legally post here so please tell me if you know so I don't have to Google that, too! ☺) I've only tried this on one plate so far. (See bellow) I first wanted to try it on a thicker plate that I don't care much about because I don't have access to wire that is quite as thick as the instructions stated to use. The plate didn't fall down over night so I'm going to assume that we're good to go and now I'll make more for my vintage plates!
Martha suggests taking needle nose pliers to the wire ends that show and curling them up cute but I haven't felt like going out to the shop and looking for needle nose pliers yet!
Girls, I have so many half finished projects going on right now that it's starting to get on my nerves! I want to finish up at least SOME of them before my Spring break is over!
We're in store for several days of sunshine here! I can hardly wait to plant some Pansies! Yahoeey!
Hope you'll all have fun today!

Birthday Shelf After and Before

Come on in, girls! Here is the first of many before and afters I've been working on during my Spring break but I thought I would have the "after" pic show up first! This cute little nick knack shelf was a birthday gift from my local friend, Amy. (Hi, Amy!) I decorated it really quick for this pic so it wouldn't appear lonely or empty. ☺ Here's the shelf before I really liked it White but since my walls are white, I decided to paint it Aqua. I always have such a hard time deciding what color to paint something because I love all colors! Now I'm wishing it was still white. Ha-ha! Oh well!

Thoughts on crafting:
Ya know, I had so much fun making my Valentine cards from vintage images... I couldn't wait to get started on some Easter ones too... but instead, I'm in a "before and after" mode. Whatever! Gotta go with the flow!
My house goes up for sale in just a couple of more weeks so I've been painting, scrubbing and de- junking some more! I've even done a bit of packing. How's that for thinking positive toward a sale!? I've been working real hard but playing real hard, too!
I hope you all have a wonderful day! Never forget how unique and special you are in this world!

Do You Have A Favorite Plate?

Here's mine! I love the soft colors and the delicate vines. It was hard to choose one plate out of many but I finally decided on this one. Here's a close up but the colors turned out a bit darker than true... I wish I could remember where this plate came from!

And here's my newest plate bellow- 25 cents from my Goodwill. It has some chips in it but that's okay! I'd love to have more chippy ones to put in the garden.
I'm going to try making my own plate hangers in the next week. I'll let you know if it works! I'm on Spring break right now and I have soooo many fun projects planned!
Do you have a favorite plate? I'd love to see it!

Rag Wreath Tutorial

In this post, I will give a tutorial of how I make my rag wreaths.

I have used different types of wreaths as the base for my wreaths:
Straw, vine, styro-foam- it doesn't matter since it will all be covered up.
For this wreath, I used a small vine wreath.
Wind strips of fabric around the wreath and hot glue in place so you won't have the ugly base peeking through.
When making a rag wreath, think of a florists bouquet of flowers.
Your strips of fabric are the "flowers" in your bouquet- sticking out this way and that and the ribbons, laces and trims are the "fillers" in your bouquet.
Here is the wreath below, with its base all covered up.
I use 2 or more different fabrics cut or ripped into narrow strips.
I've used different widths and lengths.
If strips are too short they'll be difficult to tie on so leave them longer and trim afterwards.
For this wreath, I used white eyelet, solid white and  solid cream fabric. For my fillers I used white laces, white ribbons, white tulle and cream ribbon. I experimented with adding little flowers to this one, too.
A thin cotton fabric works best for tying. I tie sample strips to make sure they will work well and then I cut all the rest of my strips.
You'll need 100s of strips! No matter how many I cut, I always end up needing more!
Start tying your strips onto the front middle of the base.
Tie into a simple knot and go all around the wreath.
This is the easy stage. Just tie and tie and tie some more while you watch TV! There's plenty of room to work but later on, it will be a bit trickier to squeeze in one more strip of lace in just the right place!
Here below is the wreath with about 80 strips of eyelet fabric tied on.
My strips here are all a bit long yet.
No matter how confident I am about my fabric and trim choices, the wreath always looks pitiful at first! Just keep tying on your strips of fabric all around the wreath and then start tying on your trims and it will eventually look better- I promise!
I usually add my fabric strips first and then the fillers but there are no set rules when you're creating! You'll do a lot of snipping as you go and when you're tweaking in the final stages, too. All your strips should end up around the same length for a uniform look and you shouldn't have any gaps by the time you're done.
Now here's a close up of the finished wreath with little flowers tucked in. Much better! I think real babies breath tucked in would look sweet! Here's another close up of the finished wreath in different lighting. This pic shows off the cream better. (White sure is tricky to photograph!)
So go ahead and make your own now! It's fun and it's easy!
Feel free to ask questions if I didn't explain well enough!
Have a great day everyone! ♥

5 "Guilty" Pleasures

Happy Monday, girls! The rain is gently falling on the greening grass and the Robins are singing out their delight!

Debbi from All In My Cottage posted this lovely button on her blog and listed her 5 guilty pleasures. (Debbi made my absolutely adorable Cottage Christmas stocking -see this post!) Here are 5 of my pleasures (but with no guilt!)

#1 Sleeping as long as I want to every day and not using an alarm!

#2 Saying no

#3 Being myself no matter how weird people think I might be.

#4 Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with sprinkled walnuts, chocolate syrup and whip cream- once a week with a girlie movie- unless I pass up my healthy weight.

#5 TWILIGHT! My New Moon DVD should arrive UPS today!

Be good to yourselves, girls!

Nursery Eggs!

Look what's hatched at Cutie Pie Cottage! ☺ Aw! Sweet baby lamby! I decoupaged tissue paper onto plastic eggs in hopes of hiding the seam. It didn't work on the larger egg because the seam is horizontal. I then primed, painted, added the decal and then glittered the egg!

I didn't get the glitter quite close enough to the lamby on this one but it can't be seen from a distance. I have more eggs in the making with different colors! Stay tuned!

It's A Miracle!

Well, not exactly but...for the first time since the grandchildren went home, my dresser top is cleared off of junk! I don't know why but my poor dresser top gets used as a dumping off spot. Do you have a spot like that? Mine drives me crazy. Well, no more! No folded laundry, craft supplies, safety pins or excuses. It stays pretty from now on!

Well, lets see what I have here... I spy pillows from Sandi, a star fish from M, vintage linen from Juli, a pretty box from my Sara, tulle from Walmart ☺ and a 25 cent vintage garage sale bowl that holds some of my jewelery. Lots of lovely things that remind me of my lovely friends every day!

I like my dresser top this way much better! The only thing that would make it better is if it was White!

Happy Monday, girls! Seize the day! ♥

Before And After Outlet

Outlet before- Ew!Outlet after- Cute! (If you don't look too close!) My next one will be better. ☺
I just Modge Podged gingham cloth onto the removed outlet and then screwed it back on!

I hope you all have a delightful and creative day!
PS I'm learning some things. I just wanted to clarify here that I saw this done somewhere else first (I don't know where) and that this idea did not originate with me! ☺

To Holly From Molly

Sweet treats in the mail form my fairytale friend "Molly" AKA Jackie from Once Upon A Fairyland! Molly knew I'd love that cutie pie, vintage party invite and she was right! Aren't the colors just so soft? There was also a precious little girl tag that Molly made for me but wouldn't you know it, that girl is camera shy! When the time for the photo shoot came, that girl just up and disappeared! Thanks again, Molly for being such a sweet and thoughtful friend!

I'm resting today, girls! My body says so and my body knows best!
Have a great-O day-O!

The Deal Of The Week

Love this 79 cent rose frame from the GW! It's not even plastic- it's some sort of metal! It's the type that stands but I think I'll remove the stand and use it as a wall frame.

I also might paint it -along with the 10 other things I'd like to paint! ☺
Micah and I went on a picnic in the 100 acre wood yesterday and we saw a raccoon up in a small holly tree! We took a bunch of pics of her but I felt sorry for her because she was so scared! But I was also scared that she would hurt our dog or cat! Raccoons can be vicious! It sure made Micah's day!
We have another warm sunny day in store for us today but then the rainy days will begin! Better get all the sun I can today!

Another Re- Do

Do any of you long time reader girls remember this great red frame that I got from the GW a long time ago?? I found two of them. I put my vintage Christmas cards in one
and here's what I did with the other one. I just popped in some strawberry paper that I bought in Idaho last year.

That paper has been waiting for me to do something with it for a long time! It now hangs in the kitchen. I'm working on making my white "stone" wall look really cute but it's difficult to get nails and hooks in that stuff! I'll show you when I'm all done.
We have sunshine and warmer temps coming our way this week end! I hope you do, too!
