On Sofas And the Winter Blues

Life is usually a mixture of good and bad- happy and sad. I'm happy because I have a new sofa but I'm SAD from lack of light. Do you like my "new" $150.00 sofa? It's the first one I've had in 15 years- compliments of the Salvation Army! (Quilt needs to be re-centered now.)

I really like the sofa's lines and so does my grand puppy, Butters. She inspected it from one end to the other! Butters makes me happy but lack of light makes me feel SAD, lazy and muddled in my mind!

Thanks to my friend KIM, I finally took action against the winter blues and ordered a light therapy box. All the reviews I read were positive and people saw results right away. I'll let you know how it works for me when it arrives. Thanks again, Kim for caring about me.

I know how to count my blessings and I know these blues will pass. In the mean ole time, please understand if I am quiet and spending a lot of time in the world of BBC. Lark Rise To Candleford anyone?

Wow, what a perfectly charming sofa! Great find, it looks like it is in very good shape. I have had problems with winter blues as well. Not this year, but in the past. We tried adding lighter paint colors in my house, and even a larger window in the living room. Yay, so pretty, now. I really believe it helped so much. I hope that your light lamp works the way you want it, too.
Bless you , Holly!
Hugs,
Susie

Hi Holly,
I think it is a beautiful couch. I hope your lack of light gets better. Go get an Ott lite and do some sewing next to it, that seems to help me!
I was wondering if you could help me with something. Yesterday I put a bid in on a Hello Kitty Sewing Machine for my granddaughter's birthday present. The cutest thing ever. I saw it in a post by The Polka Dot Chair where a lady bought it for her daughter. I looked at the reviews and they were fabulous. I looked for the best price - retails at 199 and saw it for 119 at overstock.com and amazon. I then looked on ebay and found one brand new, in the box, unused, unopened, not damaged, with the highest bid at 49.99. I instantly bid 50.99. Then I looked some more at the Janome site and saw they had another one that was a little bit more advanced, and decided this was the one I want to get. So I am hoping someone will outbid me. Know anyone? It is listed as Hello Kitty Janome Sewing Machine Best For Kids. The cutest thing you ever saw! I would love to keep it for myself but can't really afford that. The auction is done in one day, so anyone interested feel free to outbid me. IF you know of anyone please let them know. Thanks Holly. I'll try to control that trigger finger next time I am on ebay.

Great score! The nice thing about the light color is you can add any color to it to create new looks. It's perfectly perfect! Have a fun weekend...

PS Can you believe it's almost a year since our swap? Time flyes.

LOVE your new sofa....t's very curvaceous! I haven't had a new one in probably 25 years, but I could never get rid of our antique one, so I guess it doesn't really matter!
Let me know how that light box works. I'm pretty sure I suffer from that too, but I've just been pushing through it.
Never heard of that show, but I'm all caught up in Mistresses on BBC. Have you seen it? Very trashy. I love it!

Hi Holly..

I love your new sofa. So glad you found one and at such a reasonable price too.. And you are so sweet to have mentioned me in your post today. I sure hope that light box works for you and makes your winter time blues go away.. Have a great weekend!!

That is a nice sofa. I need to break down and buy a new sofa. Maybe i should be checing out a thrift store. So many in blogland find nice stuff at thriftstores. I never do. Maybe I am just not there at the right time!
I hope the Winter blues go away for you soon. Do you have any projects that you would like to do? Maybe you can work on them now. Painting, refreshing, and decluttering helps me out.

Have a happy weekend

I think the couch is charming, and how fun to decorate.
I understand the way you must feel, I have my sis in Oregon and I just love the city, but I am scared that if I was to live there I would be so depressed with the gloom. I guess it doesn't bother everybody, but I'm with you girl "I need sunshine" ox

Hi Holly,
Sunshine helps me too, try to get outside more for some fun. Maybe that would help.
Best wishes,
Dorothy

Hey Holly, That's a very nice looking sofa. How did you ever find one that matches your colors? Or have you been looking awhile? Glad it passed doggie approval.

About the sad thing...it usually happens to me sometime in February, so sick of winter & the darkness by then, ugh! Let us know how the light machine works. Take care.

Holly your couch is so pretty. It really was a great find!
I'm sort of dealing with a touch of the winter blues myself.
Keep thinking spring is just a round the corner and your a lucky girl, you will have a wonderful farm to explore.
I hope you will post pictures of the rolling hills just covered in fresh green grass!
Please let me know if your lamp works, I hope it will. I may have to invest in one myself.

That's so ironic that you would write about being SAD, because I almost posted about it today too. : (

I just doubled my Vitamin D and am taking B12 too. I DO have a lightbox and although it's currently packed away and I can't get to it, I do rememeber it helping. I'd use it in the morning while sitting at the laptop. It was no miracle cure, but I did want to spend all day just sitting in front of it!

Hang in there, you're NOT alone!

Does your light go down that much there Holly? Ours goes to 6 hours a day but I'm not effected by it. Either you are or you aren't and I don't know why. Then we have the long days of light coming where it's only 2 hours of twilight before sun-up.
Your new white sofa is very nice I'm sure you will enjoy that.

I know how you feel Holly. I struggle with the same thing over the winter months. Not nearly enough sun to keep us fully charged!
We owe it to ourselves to take the time we need. I also have heard good things about light boxes--I hope it does the trick!

your new couch is lovely and hopefully that brightens your spirits too. I bet the light will help. I know a lot of people use them.

Glad you ordered the light box Holly. No need to suffer every Winter, especially when you really do so many positive activities to lift the Winter Sads. Let us all know how you do, as I may get one for my daughter in Halifax Nova Scotia. Always sending you love and light, my Dear. Your couch is soooo pretty and looks very well made.

I love the couch and love the price even more!! I lived in Minnesota for years before moving to Orlando and remember the shut in winter blues well!! I still have family in the frozen tundra and there is actually some who love the nesting feeling of winter...Not me! Besides a light box, try taking vitamin D, it is the vitamin from the sun and if low can cause the blues.....Good luck, spring will be here before you know it!

Oh Holly, here I am; Larkrise to Candleford LOVER! I so want to buy the entire series when it comes out. Sorry to hear that you are feeling a bit blue. I too love sunshine! I don't think that I could live somewhere where it is overcast alot. Here in Utah it will snow, but the sun comes out and shines most every day. Luckily, I have been blessed (I think it is a gene passed down from my mother) that I don't get feeling blue. Oh sure, sometimes I have a pity party, but only for a minute. Love your couch and your pooch is a real cutie. Hope your light helps. You're way too cute to be feeling blue!!
Hugs,
Jann

Hi Holly, your sofa is lovely especially with that cute little doxie accessory.... I have two very overweight ones. I can't believe the good prices many of you girls get at thrift shops. The ones in my area sell poor quality items at a very inflated price. I like to help them out but would like to get a good product. Speaking of being a little down because of lack of light, I have a relative who suffers from that also. She doesn't have the box but makes sure to keep the house as bright as possible by opening all blinds and keeping overhead lights on as well as lamps even in the daytime. That seems to help a lot plus just trying to do something productive or maybe something fun! As the Good Book says "this too shall pass" and thank goodness it will. Wishing you brighter days ahead-------Shannon

Hi Holly!

Your happy little farm home now has a happy little couch. Just sit upon it, or take a nap and zap...just like that you might just wake up with rose colored glasses on instead of winter blues.

Compassion sent...the winter is long...that's for sure. I've been in a battle myself lately, which I didn't need, didn't invite and didn't want.

Excuse me, I need to go find my rose colored glasses too...

i have tried making some yo yo's but I don't think I would tackle a quilt! This one I found is large! So much time to make just a few. I did hear they have a tool to make them but the ones I did were all handmade! ox

What a lovely new sofa! I can totally relate to the feeling of not having enough light. This bright addition should help, hopefully!

It is raining yet again. (sigh)

I love your new sofa! I see lots of possibilities with the sweet color....quilts and pillows and such. I am sorry you are blue, that is one reason I could never live where there is winter with no sun for days...I hope the light box does the trick! I have heard good things about them....Of course, you could always come to visit...it is 80 degrees and sunny and beautiful here today! Guest room always open! :) Hugs, Sandy

I understand the winter blues but how can you not smile with that great couch and cute puppy!! lol Looks like my guys when I want to make a pic. UNLESS it's of them! I hope your box works! I have a friend who just goes to the tanning bed about once a week until the sun comes out. She is a nurse and knows the risks but just cannot cope unless she does.
