Yo Yo Scarecrow!

One of my earliest memories is playing with a weird yo yo clown doll so I made a decorative yo yo scarecrow!
I think he's cute!
Bobby helped me figure out his assembly.
I just took the original body off a mini scarecrow and put yo yos
on the attached dowel rod for his body.
Bobby made a little piece of wood for the bottom so he can sit and I used wrapped around florist wires for the arms and legs!
I wasn't sure what to use for hands and feet so I used my rag balls.
There was instructions online for using thread for a whole body of a yo yo doll but I'm not very good at following instructions!
That's probably why I "invent" so many of my own crafts.
I'll probably add more raffia and stuff to him but I just couldn't wait to show you!

I think he needs a name.  Any suggestions?

Buttons Buttons! Who's Got The Buttons?

My yo yo mat does!
I took about a zillion pics of it when I finished it!
But I narrowed it down to just a few to show you.  Aren't they just so yummy!?  I tried really hard to alternate the colors evenly but I became so confused!  I somehow ended up with 3 red dotty yo yos in one row but we like red dotties-right?
These yo yos sort of remind me of old fashioned cloth ice packs.  Either that or sea urchins.
Uh-oh!  The buttons make my candy corn candles sit crooked!  Oh well- I don't think they mind!

Thanks for all the sweet comments on my last post!  You all are such an encouragement to me!

It's Never Too Late!

(This parody post must be read in a newscaster voice.)

Welcome to-
It's Never Too Late!
In this segment, we introduce you to Holly.

Holly of Cutie Pie Cottage HAD suffered from a sewing phobia since HIGH SCHOOL but she over came her fear last winter and learned how to make fabric yo yos.  Not only did Holly learn how to make fabric yo yos but now she has learned- how to sew them TOGETHER.

Holly told us, "I had always loved the look of yo yos."  I thought they were so cute but never thought I could make one since it involved a needle and thread!"
But Holly's friend, Elizabeth believed she could do it and gave Holly a yo yo maker and even some fabric.  But it was still another year before Holly was brave enough to pick up the needle and try.

Making yo yos is now a favorite pass time for Holly and we think she's doing a great job.  Holly says she began adding buttons to the center of her yo yos to hide her unsightly knots but we think these button centers JUST might become one of her signature looks.  What do you readers think?

Please keep in mind that Holly asked us to not look TOO closely at the stitching together of her first mat and to please, NOT flip it over!  Ha-ha, don't worry, Holly.  We're sure your stitching will improve in time.

We have a feeling there will be more yo yo mats in Holly's future and just maybe there will be one in YOURS, too!  Thanks for tuning in and remember- IT'S NEVER TOO LATE to learn something new!

(Hee-hee- feeling silly today!)

I'm having so much fun with fall crafting and "making a scene" on my front porch!  Last year, I was packing to move into a house I ended up NOT buying and it broke my heart.  I had a lot of sorrows last fall but this year is much happier- so far!  Wait- It's actually not even fall YET!  Ha-ha!
I shortened the stem and added leaves to my Lilly Pad pumpkin.
Ta-da!  Here's my frame!  Keep in mind that this is a work in progress which makes this pic- Fallifying The Porch-TAKE 6!
I am sewing up a fabric yo yo runner to put down on the table.
The runner has aqua in it which will tie in with the owl banner.
I was trying to hide the damaged pieces of my frame with the banner but it didn't work.

I'll probably end up moving the banner to the top instead but it's hot glued to the bottom so I'll have to melt off the glue, move the banner and glue on top and repaint the chipped spots where the glue was on the bottom and I just don't feel like it yet!  Painting dots on pumpkins is much more fun.

I have hung so many different things INSIDE my frame and I'm still not satisfied.  What's  hanging there now was a thrift store thing that I gussied up a bit.  I'd hang a fall wreath there if I had one but I don't so...

Also, my wicker looks so dull compared to the frame that I think it needs a fresh coat of paint!

Stay tuned!

Vintage Reds!

Happy Rednesday!  I don't have any new reds to show you but I've rounded up a bunch of  vintage reds that were purchased while living on the farm.
My first purchase from the antique store while living on the farm was this Poppies and Plaid cake carrier!

I just love it and I eventually bought the canisters that go with it, too!

Here's Polka Dot Pete
and Dotty Duck!  They're sweet hearts.
I love this little red suitcase!  It now holds all my red fabric for yo yos and rag balls.
I crushed on this little dot pot for a year before I broke down and bought it!
Aw, last but not least- my happy shelves from the farm!  I miss this scene!  Here you can see the canisters that go with the cake carrier.

Head over to Brown Gingham Creations to see Melody and see what other REDS are lined up for today!

Lilly Pad Pumpkin

I made a stuffed pumpkin and my boy said it looked like a Lilly Pad!  And it does!  Ha-ha!  He also said it looked like "one of those mud cake things that little kids make."  Hmmmm....  ☺
I've already taken out the stem and I'm moving on to stem B!  Home grown pumpkins have a curly stem but store boughts have their stems cut and I'm such a realist that I want a proper stem.  Ha-ha!  Sorry, I'm laughing at myself because as my boy also said "Real pumpkins do NOT have flowers on them."
I used this vintage sheet/pillow case for my pumpkin and sewed it up yo yo style and stuffed with pillow stuffing.  I also but some gravel in the bottom because I might put it on the porch and I didn't want it to blow away!

I've been slowly fallifying the porch.  I run out there then run back in because I don't want anyone to see me do it!

I really need to get over it though because its' taking forever and I want to show my blogging girls!
When I decorate, I have to fluff- then stand back and look, then walk out of the room and walk back in, take pics, etc and that's hard to do on the porch.  I pretend that I'm going out to my van for something and then I walk back up.  Isn't that silly?!

You should see my dinning room table.  There is a fall explosion on it!  I don't really do Halloween but I do fall.  I wanted to buy a real pumpkin yesterday but it was too heavy for my back!  Maybe I can actually drag my hubs to a pumpkin patch?  That would be fun.

Thanks for coming by and adding so much to my girl hungry life!  I hope you all have a great week!

Who's There?

Cutie pie owls from my latest trade!  That's WHO!
I made a rag ball garland for Mary of Redo 101 and she made me this adorable fall banner.  I just love it.  Thanks again, Mary!  Mary has an etsy shop so click HERE to check it out!  I love everything she makes!
I just love the little owl revival that's popular right now- as long as the owls aren't all gold and brown like in the 70s.  When I saw Mary's little owls. I knew I wanted some!  My plans are to hang this banner across the top of my frame I'm painting.  I'ts going to look perfect!
I've been on a bit of a thrifting re$triction and it's driving me crazy! But the other day,  I did manage to let $3.00 dollars sneak out of my wallet when I found this mid century coffee carafe.  I'm not a gold fan but I am a star burst fan!  My first thought was "buy for the booth" but on continued reflection, I think I'll use it in the craft room to hold fabric.  I have all sorts of vintage dishes in my craft room.

And speaking of craft rooms (which is really just my bedroom.)  Bobby is going to be putting a window in it soon!  Then I'll feel like I can really use my space, organize it and show you.  I'm so excited!

Happy weekend!  I get to go to our little county fair!  It's just a couple blocks away.

Rednesday Is Back!!

Melody at Brown Gingham Creations has picked up the baton for Rednesday!
Thank you, Melody!
In this cutie pie display of mine, I'm letting RED be my accent color.
My goal is to have a multicolored home because I love all color!
That cookie jar in the middle is my grands cookie jar.
I stock it with iced animal crackers. It doesn't STAY stocked.
To kick off Rednesday, Melody is offering a give away!  So head on over and check out all the reds!
Happy decorating!

Tricks And Trades

Look what I TRADEd a rag ball garland for!  Eeeks! It's an Irmi switch plate!  I traded with Harriette from Look at The Birdie!  She also included a little dish cloth she made.  I love crochet dish cloths.  Thanks again for trading with me, Harriette!
If anyone else wants to trade for vintage goods, let me know!
Now here's my TRICK.  I'm trying to make a valance out of my Wilendur cherry table cloth!  GULP!
I never did  put it on my table and always kept it folded away so why not cut into it?  If I could take it back- I would but it's too late now!  Wish me luck!
I'm going to have the hubs remove that higher up hardware- bringing the valances lower and then... go from there.

I have another trade to show you soon!

Kitchen Pics

My guys hung up my paper chain for me!  I started on my chain with my grand girls when they were here to visit.

Getting distance pics in my kitchen is hard!  I might hang the rest of the chain on the other wall if I decide I like this.
Here's the shoes I dyed.  I made a mistake of not using a large enough container.  That made a color crease on the toe but that's okay.  I doubt anyone notices when I'm wearing them and if they do- they are WAY too nosy!
My Bobby teased me the other day.  He told me to go look at the bird bath he made and to take a pic of it for my "website".

He's took the garbage can away and replaced it with a stump.  It looks... somewhat better now.

We have out of town company.  We spent all day sight seeing yesterday.  This morning, I was exhausted.  That's enough adventuring for me!  Bobby left with them again this morning at 8:30 for another even fuller day.  It's now 2:00 and he just called to say they are now on their way to Spokane which is 2? hours away.  I asked what they were going to do there and he said he didn't know.  I'm so glad I stayed home!  Does that sound rude to you?  I can't help it.  I have to be me and me don't like to go anywhere 2 days in a row and talk non stop while doing it!  Just give me a quiet little corner and my crafts and I'm happy.  Throw in some chocolate and we have a deal!
