Projects, Finds and Trades

Hello girls!  I bought this huge frame at a garage sale LAST year.  (My puppy must smell whatever I'm taking a pic of!)

It's my first really large  ornate frame and I finally started painting it white over the last couple days.  I have to go slow because of my wimpy wrists.

2 of the corners are damaged but for only a buck, I bought it anyway!  Carol at the Polka Dot Closet teaches us how to repair corners but for now, I think I'll hang a banner over the top- hiding the corners.  I plan on hanging it on my front porch.

I saw this great shoe idea on a blog recently.  They turned out darker than I wanted and they're blotchy but I'm going to pretend that was the look I was going for.
I'll show you once they are dry and laced back up

Here's one of my favorite latest finds!  It's a hard hood dominion hair dryer from the 60s!

My hubby has to help me open and close it or I'd show it set up!  I am mechanically challenged!  Ha-ha!  This will go in my future booth.

Look at this adorable wreath that I traded a rag ball garland for!  This wreath was made by  Chris of Perfectly Printed.  Isn't it cute?  I couldn't resit trying one of my yo yos on it!  No surface is safe from yo yos anymore!  Ha-ha!  Thanks for swapping with me Chris!
My boy returned home late last night while I was sleeping!
I can't wait to hear the clanging of his weights in the garage, the guitar amplifier booming throughout the house and his superior opinions on all subjects!

Elect a teenager for president while they still know everything!

Have Yo Yo Will Travel

Here's my yo yo making kit!  I'm so glad Elizabeth gave me this yo yo maker! See the cup cake Twyla made for me?  My kit goes out onto the porch with me or to the pool.  Everything is stored in my vintage travel case.  I'm planning a make over for this case so stay tuned.

I feel quite Pan Amish when I take my case to the pool.

I took it while waiting for the hubs at the Doctors office the other day and the receptionist came over to investigate.  Turns out she is a quilter and we had a nice little crafty connection.  I wish I would have known how to take it farther as in "want to be crafty friends?"  How do you go about making friends with other women?  I found it so much easier when my children were young.

I had a little girl "make friends" with me at the pool the other day.  It was so sweet!  If only women could be so open and eager- myself included.

I do have one friend here and we're going to try to get together next week but she is so busy that it's always hard to tack down a time.  I am the least busy person I know!  I mean, I stay busy with lots of things but nothing that can't be stopped- ya know?
Can you tell I'm starting to feel a bit lonely with my boy gone?

I'm A Northern Girl!

I picked up a couple Northern tissue girl prints by  Frances Hook at the GW!  I'll sell this one above but keep the next one.
I've always loved these and especially this snow girl because she reminds me of little me!
When I showed the FH print to my eldest son he thought it *was* me.  Ha-ha!
My mom was an artist and he thought my mom made it!

I just love little 4 year old Holly.  Does that sound strange to you?  Did you know that my dad abandoned me (and my siblings) after I was born?  I was the baby of 4 children and that poor, cute little girl grew up without a daddy and a very, very busy mommy.  I feel I owe it to little Holly to love her extra since she had so little love in her childhood and teens.  Thankfully, I married a man who adores me and the Lord has used him to heal so much hurt in my life.

Your love helps me, too.  Thanks for being here.

Dotty Candles

It's the little things...

I painted these little dots onto my candles yesterday.

Just having fun.
And you're a part of it!

Finished Yo Yo Carousel

Ta-da!  I finally finished my yo yo carousel!
I had so much fun making this that I felt a little let down when I was done.
Ha-ha!

You're probably thinking that these pics look just like the last ones but I did change things up!

I decided less was more and took some strands away, alternated their lengths and put space between each yo yo on each strand.

I love it!  Everything would be perfect if I could find a place to hang it where it LOOKED right AND was out of my kitty's reach!  You should have seen Bobby moving the ladder everywhere for me.  He's so sweet.
I might just have to save hanging this carousel in my future booth OR wait for kitty to grow up!

I'm starting to feel sad about summer/pool season ending but I'm also feeling blah from all the heat!  I guess I'm hard to please.  If it could just be in the 80's instead of the 90's!  See what I mean?

My teen comes home in 10 days and I will be back to cooking mounds of food, chauffeuring and tip toeing around male mood swings so I better stop complaining and enjoy my free time while I can!!

Thanks for being my friends.

A Brand New Dress!

My eldest son gave me a Macys gift card for Mothers Day and I finally used it today for a new dress!  I haven't bought a brand new dress in ages so it was fun!

It's hard to tell in the pics but the material is daisies on a black background and I love it!  I also managed to squeeze a sweater AND some earrings onto that gift card!  I'm a thrifty shopper and only bought sale items.

Sneak Peek!

I'm having so much fun making a yo yo carousel!  Doesn't that sound more fun than a yo yo mobile?  I'm still experimenting with lengths, spacing and number of strands.  I'll show it to you when I'm satisfied. I'm also trying desperately to keep these yo yos away from my cat!  Ha-ha!  Oh boy- does she love this thing!  I will eventually hang it high from the ceiling so she can't reach it.

Up On The Fridge Top Cuteness Flies

Sung to the tune of Up On The Roof Top:  "Up on the fridge top- cuteness flies!"  And you're welcome for the first Christmas song of the season getting stuck in your head.
After all these months, I finally cleared off the top of my fridge and cutified it!
Looking at these pics makes one think that the thermos collection should be moved closer to the pink chair but if I did that, then the thermoses could hardly be seen from  floor level.  These things are important, you know?
One of these days, I'll learn how to take betters distance pics with my camera and then I can show you more kitchen pics!

Thanks for coming by!

If You're Happy and You Know it!!

I finally found another Happy Apple at the thrifts!  Now I have 2 in my kitchen!  Doesn't he look at home?
It was thermos day at Sally Annes yesterday!  I wasn't sure of the age of the teal one but I bought it anyway!
This card holder was a garage sale find- 25 cents!  Hello!  I've always wanted one of these but don't know if they have a name other than a card holder.  Do you know?
70's time!
I wonder if I'll ever really make this chenille bunny...  Ya think?  I was thrilled to find these Tupperware pudding cups!  My mom had these and I remember eating chocolate pudding out of them with my big brother.    We pretended we were babies and we fed ourselves messily!  Ha-ha!  That's what I love about vintage kitchen wares- all the memories they carry!

I'm working on a new project with my yo yos I've been making since winter.  If it turns out, I'll show you when I'm done!

Thanks for coming by, sweet friends!

It's A Switch Plate Makeover!

It's project time at Cutie Pie Cottage!  Will my dinning room ever be free from make overs?  I don't think so!  I used my left over vintage sheet curtain scraps to pretty up my light switches!
Here's a before.
And here's an after!  Sweet, huh?
The yellow flowers always photograph gold but they are actually more of a sunny yellow.
I simply unscrewed the plates and took them to the table, painted them white and WAITED for them to dry and then modge podged the fabric on.
The tricky part was cutting the holes for the switches.  I used an exacto knife to cut slits after the fabric had dried and then hot glued the fabric to the back side of the holes.  I hot glued all around the edges on the back side, too.
I also threw a quick coat of white primer on the screws but because I wanted to finish quickly, they don't look so great but do we care?  No.

Thanks for playing house with me!
Onto the next project!
